Skybound by Aleksandr Voinov

So short yet so sweet! This short novella is told from Felix's POV. He is a mechanic working on planes near the ending of WWII. He has a huge crush on Baldur, one of the pilots, he sees him as a true hero, but never considers Baldur would ever even speak to him, a mere mechanic.

Yet one night Baldur does just that, start a conversation, and later on after Felix helps him off his plane when he is hurt, Baldur offers Felix to join him for a weekend home. There they can act upon their attraction to one another. It seems Felix wasn't the only one sneaking peeks on the other. Baldur is so gentle and sweet toward Felix who is quite insecure of his status and the fact he isn't a pilot (though he wanted to be). Baldur doesn't mind all that.

This short novella ends right when Germany loses the war when the skies are filled with fire and ash and though Felix was always the one worrying about Baldur being hurt or not coming back, HE is the one hurt and Baldur has a hard decision to make.

Simply beautiful. Though it was short it gave a very genuine feel of the surrounding of Baldur and Felix and the dread of acting upon their interest in one another. Their connection was very gentle and sweet. I really wasn't expecting that.

Yep, Recommended!
