The Darkest Flame (Roadmap to Your Heart #1) [Vaughn & Smoke] by Christina Lee

I haven't read for a full week. So when Saturday arrived I felt like I NEED to read and this one was on my immediate reading list having pre-ordered it and hoped I'll actually find the time to read it the day it was released..Yeah, no luck there.. It was a nice read, I liked both MC and the progression of their relationship but something was missing or rather I didn't find myself interested in the overall plot of the Motorcycle club.

Both Vaughn and Smoke are a part of the Disciples Motorcycle club, while Smoke is a "real member" Vaughn's business ends with owning "Hog's Den" the bar the Club calls their own. Smoke and Vaughn were attracted to one another the first time they met, yet they didn't act upon their attraction, not wanting to draw unwanted attention. Motorcycles clubs being quite "old school" so accepting two bisexual men in the gang seemed unlikely.

Yet when Mal, the president of the MC club, puts the both of them together behind the bar (when Vaughn needed the extra help) it changed everything. First off, trying to ignore their attraction become unbearable and then, when they finally succumb to their mutual need they find themselves in a very awkward and troublesome situation with someone (probably from Smoke's past) targeting Vaughn.

There is also some sort of plot-line referring to the Scorpions (another MC club) asking for the Disciples' help with taking down Smoke's former MC club. Luckily it didn't take a lot of the plot space because it's exactly the kind of thing that makes me dislike the Motorcycle Club sub-genre.

I feel kinda silly giving this book almost yet not full 4 stars rating yet but for me, it's exactly the difference between a book I loved (even though I had a few issues with) and would enjoy re-reading and a book I liked yet won't read again. Though I loved Christina's New Adult series and rated ALL of them 5 stars and HIGHLY recommend them this one was just an okay read. I think I'm more a person of "internal struggle" than "real mystery" which also explains why I enjoyed her NA so much and maybe it's why I felt this one a bit lacking. There was little suspense but it wasn't the kind you second guess yourself and try to solve the mystery on your own, you just go with the flow waiting for the plot to solve itself.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Roadmap to Your Heart is a Contemporary MM Romance series by Christina Lee. It started as a Motorcycle club themes ("Disciples Motorcycle club") but lucky for me it didn't stay that way at all or rather it stopped focusing on the MC club
So while the first two installments (#1, #1.5) were an okay read for me, the final three (#2, #3, #3/5) were SUPERB! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The last novella was originally published as a part of the "It Was Always You" charity anthology. This Anthology isn't available, but this novella can be bought now separately.

There's also a beautiful stand-alone prequel to the series called "Kickflip" (Originally published as "There You Stand" in the "Between Breaths" series).
