The Wedding Date (Four Weddings and a Fiasco Universe) by Katy Regnery ~~~ ★ ★ ★ ~~~

This short novella is based on a character from "Four Weddings and a Fiasco" series by Lucy Kevin (aka Bella Andre). I haven't read this series (or anything else by this author) but I WAS into reading more by Katy and so I added this one to my list.

I gotta say it's not what I expected mostly because this one is sort of Young Adult novella in the way the characters were acting. I mean, he's 19 and she's 20 so basically this SHOULD have been more of a New Adult, but both characters FELT very young. They were SWEET, so so sweet, and endearing, and really deserving each other and to be happy but it also made the story a little bit, well, sappy.

The Hardest Fall (Roadmap to Your Heart #3) by Christina Lee ~~~ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ~~~

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE book of 2016. I connected with this book in a way I can't remember feeling in a LONG time. A good book, luckily, is not a hard thing to find, but a book you FEEL this way and understand on a personal level is something different entirely. It's also VERY personal for me so I can't "guarantee" you'll feel the same about it as I did, but I CAN promise you it's a GREAT book with beautiful unique characters, a bit angsty which is very understandable when you get to know the characters, so even if you're not into angst, it's so character appropriate I really enjoyed the whole journey and I'm sure you will too :)

Two Men Walk Into A Bar (at Christmastime) by Katy Regnery ~~~ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ~~~

This short novella brings two different characters together - Asher Lee from "The Vixen and the Vet" and Zach Aubrey from "After We Break". They are stranded together at the Los Angeles airport at Christmas eve, both wanting to be re-united with their wives - Savannah & Violet. The novella is told from ALL four POVs which was really cool! Though I just put aside Zach and Violet's story it's been a while since I've read of Asher and Savannah so I had a great time re-visiting them.

After We Break by Katy Regnery ~~~ ★ ★ ★ (DNF 74%) ~~~

These past few weeks were VERY busy, I had no time to read, but truthfully, there was something pulling me off this story and I wasn't sure what it was. Considering how tired I was most of the time, I figured it's just me not being able to concentrate enough to read. But at the point I am today I realize it's me not connecting AT ALL with Violet (the MC). I liked Zach A LOT, I totally get EVERYTHING about him and his life, but I just can't see it working between the two of them, I think Zach should find someone BETTER for himself, someone who sees him and appreciates what she sees and not keep looking for his flaws or how different he is from who he was and who she wants him to be.

COVER REVEAL - Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers #2) by Sarina Bowen

Are you ready??? The first book in the series isn't out yet (will be in the beginning of 2017)) but the cover reveal IS! How exciting is that? I really can't wait for this series to be released!!! I LOVED "The Ivy Years" so getting more from the characters we've met and loved only maturer is SO exciting!

Without further ado..

YUM!

Bittersweet (True North #1) [Griffin & Audrey] by Sarina Bowen ~~~ ★ ★ ★ ½ ~~~

I'm a bit unsure of my feelings towards this one. Usually Sarina's books drag me under and I don't surface until I'm through. But this one was different, it took me a LONG time to get into the story and feel the connection between Audrey and Griffin. I was just sort of overwhelmed with the scenery and not in a good way, it actually GOT in the way. I've never been to Vermont (and probably never will..) but I got such a specific sense of the place and what it takes to be a farmer there (or maybe be a farmer in general though technically my family DID had a farm years and years ago). We get A LOT of details about what the farm in like, the work that needs to be done, the effort, not just physically but mentally, for a family to survive. While it did give this book a different kind of back story than I'm used to, it was also a  bit too much for me, at a certain point I wanted to get back to the STORY, and yet the farm was a part of that which couldn't be separated. At times I was a bit bored with it which made it difficult for me to be invested in the book.

Dark Sexy Knight (A Modern Fairytale, #4) [Colt & Verity] by Katy Regnery ~~~ ★ ★ ★ ★ ~~~

Where to start.. The whole idea behind this book was so cool! I mean, how do you re-create the Legend of Camelot if not in a theater which brings exactly that! Colt is our "dark (and sexy ;)) knight" with Verity joining as a merchant with her brother helping out in the stables. Though I have never been to this kind of theater it really made me wish I could find something like that and go see it!

June 2016 Goals

Summer is here and with it a new semester, this time I have a few courses planned so I hope I'll be able to read as I have the last two month. On the one hand I enjoy my studying and more new courses means learning interesting stuff, and yet it also means less free time which I'm NOT about ;)

I have quite an eclectic month planned - Contemporary and New Adult Romance as usual but also a new Paranormal Romance series mixed in and also FINALLY, there are half M/F and half M/M novels. I strive to get to some sort of "equality" or rather diversity in my reading but it seems I add mostly M/M Romance these days.. I'll try and change that in the future but funny enough it will take time because there are SO many books I have already plan on reading. Funny enough I was looking at my TBR list, I have a certain "mark" I put on books I want to schedule as soon as possible, in the beginning it was for immediate read, if it works out, but apparently the list is SO long now I won't be able to finish them ALL in 2017..

Sarina is one of my absolute favorite authors so when I heard there's a new series I was jumping up and down with excitement. Also the fact it's adult romance (though I guess it's somewhere between Contemporary and New Adult) is also exciting!

I've been reading and loving everything by Katy these past few months. This month I have two new Contemporary Romance novels - a surprise release in the Modern Fairytale series as well as a rather new series (only one book published which turned out into a stand alone novel). There are two short novellas, one with characters from previous books by Katy and the other is from a series written by another author (I haven't read but don't mind trying out :)).

Surprise release! well, kinda.. I knew it will be out soon just not when exactly. I LOVED the previous one in this Contemporary MM Series.  Haven't even read the blurb, new book by Christina means it's an immediate read!

Originally I had twice as many planned for this month but sadly about half of the month I didn't have time to read (or breath, or sleep..) so I had to give some of them up - at least for now.

Check out more of my Recap and Goals of the past months!

May 2016 Recap

A lot happened this month book-wise. I totally fell in love with a new (to me) series, got to know a new author with two heart breaking books, enjoyed a few more stand alone novels and had a few misgivings about books I expected more from (May Goals).

Total Read - 16 ebooks (+ 2 DNF) / 2944 pages (~95 pages a day)

I feel like a cheat with 16 (!) ebooks, especially since a couple of them were short novellas ;) Which is why I also always add pages count...

★  ★  ★  ★  ★ - Cheers and Shouts for the Favorites -  ★  ★  ★  ★  ★
I started this month with "A Matter of Time" series by Mary Calmes. I've read only one book by her before this one and because it was good in a different sort of a way I really wanted to give this series a go, it came with a LOT of recommendations and I totally get why that is.
The series is told from Jory's POV and he is simply a JOY to read. He is reckless, funny, brave, strange, caring and loving and he gets into a LOT of trouble :D The story centers on him and Sam getting their HEA. It's takes a while but the ride is SO worth it. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Contemporary MM Romance series.

Amy Lane is (almost) always a great read. "Bewitched by Bella's Brother", a short Contemporary MM Romance novel, was another great read by her. I loved the relationship buildup not only of the MC but other characters as well (like Bella and her brother or Sebastian and Bella). It was sweet ant beautiful and though it was short I felt I got a whole story.

"Tell Me When" and "Let Me Know" are two heart breakingly beautiful New Adult novels by Stina Lindenblatt (a the moment the only two books in the "Lost in You" series). Though it feels wrong to write I enjoyed them (being so angsty and crushing) I can say that the ride was SO worth it. Both the MC have went through hell and yet they are still here and though they might not see themselves as strong I was at awe seeing how they handled everything life threw at them and not only that, how inspiring they were to the people around them (me included). It's VERY angsty, so you have to be a fan of that in order to enjoyed it as much as I did.

I've read a few of Aleksandr Voinov & L.A. Witt collaborations and enjoyed all of them. I should try more by L.A. Witt on her own, but I'm a bit intimidated by the amount of novels she published hehe. I'll get around to trying out more though :) "Broken Blades" is a Historical MM Romance taking place in WWII. I'm not sure what to say about it in a few sentences, it was hard enough to write my review. In one word - PERFECTION. A heart breakingly beautiful and yet cruel and cold love story. What can you expect in a war zone in which one man is the commander and the other a prisoner of war in his camp, in a place and time hope and humanity was lost. Yet it was so damn beautiful and at times even sweet. A MUST READ.

▲  ▲ On the Fence ▼  ▼
I'm a HUGE fan of Amy Lane's books as evidenced by how many of her books I've read the past year. I'm actually going through all of her book list (minus the ones that are not available anymore..) so I didn't expect to be on the fence about "Behind the Curtain" especially because I had good vibes about it. This New Adult MM Romance novel was somehow too angsty and sappy for me which is ironic considering I enjoyed so much another two novels in the genre this month. I think I needed more than the one POV we got. Dawson wasn't enough for me to hold the story together, I needed to know what Jared was going through from HIS point of view. The story is very different not only from what I expected but also by the whole idea behind it. I say give it a go if you're into these kind of books. You might enjoy it!

★ DNF ★ - Cries and Sniffs for the Disappointments - ★ DNF ★
I haven't actually mentioned I planned on re-reading or rather listening to "The Darkest Touch" in my monthly goals, it's just I wasn't sure what to do about it.. I REALLY enjoyed the other book in "Lords of the Underworld" series by Gena Showalter by this one was more than I could bear! it was childish beyond words, didn't fit Torin from the previous novels and so months ago when I tried reading it I just put it down after 8%!! I decided to give it another go in the audio version (since the next one in the series was soon to be released) and sadly it didn't captivate me as well (DNFed at 55%). I was bored out of my mind and SO DAMNED ANNOYED. This USED to be such a great series and now I have to put it aside because there is NO WAY I'm continuing with it.. NOPE!

I feel bad mentioning "A Solid Core of Alpha" by Amy Lane in this part. Thing is, it's totally ME, not the book. The book has an AMAZING idea, and a very different kind of support characters which are holograms created by a kid (!) to be his friends when he was left all alone in a small spaceship. Sadly this book was not for me because it's Science Fiction (MM Romance). I'm simply NOT a fan. I get bored out of my mind over the technology, space the whole engineering of everything. HIGHLY recommended to anyone who is INTO this genre, you will get one HELL of a ride. For me, it was a DNF at 58%..

 ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥  ♥

All in all I had a good month book-wise, I mean, yeah, I had a few disappointments but two out of the three were "my fault", it's just my personal preferance not more and the one I was THE disappointed from was one I knew I'll by struggling with, I just hoped I would be able to finish it this time.. oops.. I wasn't ;)
I added A LOT of books by Mary Calmes to my list (to be read next year naturally), and will be looking at more books by Stina Lindenblatt as well. Amy and Aleksandr are both absolute favorite authors, I'll be finishing most of their work this year.
